For those of you who really want to get out and experience the culture you will feel cheated by staying at Casa Marina Reef. However, if your ideal Sosua travel and Caribbean getaway only involves the beach, sun, lots of food, free booze, free nightly entertainment and a totally safe place for your kids to wonder Casa Marina Reef may be the place for you.

That’s right, Casa Marina Beach & Reef (Sosua) offers just one price for air, hotel, all meals and unlimited drinks. <g:plusone size="Medium" count="false" href="http://hotelsosua.net/sosua-hotel/casa-marina-reef-sosua" ></g:plusone>

Casa Marina was built on a private reef with an ivory-sand beach! The resort features three swimming pools, two child pools, Jacuzzi, amphitheater, five restaurants, six bars, and a disco.

If you want to do more than lay around and read or be pampered while you sun bath they offer volleyball, tennis, kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving lessons.

Casa Marina Reef is the largest resort beachfront property in Sosua. The grounds, views, and beach activities are excellent.

There are several bars to get your free drinks without having to stand in a long line. If you make a reservation at Casa Marina make certain to book your hotel room at Casa Marina Reef Sosua and not Casa Marina Beach. Both share the same grounds and amenities but the Casa Marina Beach hotel rooms are older.

I stayed at Casa Marina Beach and my room was in very poor condition. I stayed in July, 2007 for four days and was only disappointed with the room. However, the rooms at Casa Marina Reef are very nice. They are newer, comfortable and very clean. The rooms facing the pool are noisy but perfect for people watchers. As the sun goes down the resort becomes pretty quiet anyway.

Sosua offers some of the North Coast’s best diving. Not only are these sites home to countless varieties of tropical fish and marine life, but whale sharks, manta rays, and dolphins have also been known to make an appearance in these waters. Shallow reefs allow beginners to get comfortable with diving and the underwater world, while more advanced dive sites are only minutes away. Among the most popular sites are Las Palmitas, the Airport Wall, Five Rocks, and La Pirámide.

Puerto Plata Diving and Snorkeling
Along the north coast are interesting wrecks off the shores of Cofresí and Monte Cristi. In 1563, the three Spanish ships Santa Catalina, San Jorge and Santa Maria were caught in a storm and crashed into a reef in the Monte Cristi area. While the Santa Maria has been salvaged, the other two ships drifted off the reef and sank between 60 and 90 feet.

One particularly interesting dive trip is to Punta Rucia near Monte Cristi. There, a circular coral reef called Cayo Arena (Sand Island) has incredible coral diving. Cayo Arena is sometimes covered completely by the ocean, and at other times is extremely visible for topside exploring.

The best months for diving in the North Coast are June to September when the water is calm and visibility is at its very best.
